Cancer is the number 2 killer in the nation!  Over 1,500 people a day die from some form of cancer-this is the equivalent of three (3) jumbo jets crashing each day and killing everone on board.  In the year 2001, medical studies showed that 1 in every 2 men (that's 50%) and 1 in every 3 women (that's over 33%) will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives.  Most cancers are preventable!  Adopting a cancer protective lifestyle can reduce your risk  by up to 90%.  We at Focus on Natural Health Education & Community Development Inc. has the solution for your lifestyle change. High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is known as the "silent killer" due to in  most cases, there being no symptoms.  It is estimated that over 25% of Americans have this condition and about half (50%) of them don't know it!  This is serious; hypertension is associated with stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, congestive heart failure, aneurysm, blood vessel rupture, disease of the retina, and weakened memory and mental ability.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body is unable to produce or properly use and store glucose (a form of sugar).  Glucose backs up in the bloodstream, causing blood sugar to rise dangerously high.  Some symptoms are; blurred vision, frequent urination, excessive thirst, wounds that don't heal, irritability, tingling or numbness in hands or feet, extreme fatigue, frequent skin, bladder, or gum infections.
Get enough exercise; it will improve circulation, which is always poor in diabetics.  Exercise will also lower blood sugar levels, moving the sugar out of the bloodstream into the cells.
Arthritis is the inflammation of one or more joints.  Symptoms of arthritis are swelling in one or more joints, especially during damp weather, in the morning, or strenuous activity.  There may be a sharp burning or grinding pain or it may feel like a toothache.  There may be stiffness and/or pain when moving a joint.  There may also be unexplained weight loss, fever, or weakness combined with joint pain.
Heart disease is the number one (1) killer in the civilized nation.  The underlying cause of most heart disease is atherosclerosis.  This is brought on by high blood cholesterol levels which are themselves caused by a diet low in antioxidants and high in animal fat, lard, butter and hydrogenated vegetable fats.
            Congestive Heart Failure
Arthritis
Coronary Thrombosis
One of the most effective way to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
is following a cholesterol-free diet.  One study found that consuming a balanced plant-based diet reduced the incidence of heart disease by 86%.
Another scientific article pointed out that a total vegetarian (vegan) diet could prevent approximately 90% of all strokes and 97% of all heart attacks!  Studies have shown that the average risk of heart disease for a man eating meats, dairy products and eggs is 45%.  The risk for a man who leaves off meat is 15%.  However, the risk of a vegetarian who leaves off meats, dairy products and eggs drops to only 4%.
The State of Mississippi is leading the nation (number 1) in Obesity and there is an epidemic in Childhood Obesity.
Obesity lays the foundation for hypertension, heart disease, cancer and diabetes as well as numerous other problems such as; back pain, fatigue, osteoarthritis, and poor self-esteem.  Every extra pound takes about one month from your life span.  Sixty (60) extra pounds can cost you five years.  Excess fat has such a direct correlation to health that every pound gained or lost makes a difference!
